What is PromptingIndex?
A searchable, community-rated library of AI prompts. Search by keyword or tag, and the best prompts rise to the top based on upvotes.
What is a prompt?
A prompt is the instruction you give an AI model (like ChatGPT or Claude). A good prompt is specific about the role, the task, the format you want, and any constraints. Small wording changes can dramatically change the output.
How does scoring work?
Every prompt has a score equal to its upvotes minus downvotes. Signed-in users get one vote per prompt. Sort by “Top” to see the highest-rated, or “New” for the latest submissions.
Do I need an account?
You can browse and copy prompts freely. You need a free account to vote or submit, which keeps scores honest and blocks bots.
How do I write a better prompt?
Give the AI a role (“You are an expert editor…”), state the task clearly, show an example if you can, specify the output format, and set constraints (length, tone, audience). Iterate: tweak one thing at a time.
Where do the starter prompts come from?
Our seed library is drawn from openly-licensed (CC0/public-domain) prompt collections, then curated and tagged. Community submissions build from there.
Is there a paid plan?
The site is free and ad-supported. An optional low-cost subscription removes ads. (Coming soon.)
